Glad you all had a resonably good time in Boulder. The weight plates in all areas were a mixture of thicknesses and rims ('garage weights' as our team calls them) The problem captains/judges did the best they could with what they had in mixing matching and rejecting a few really bad ones. In the original scheme of things there were only to be 20 - 45# plates at each site (900# of 45's). This could have changed a lot of strategies. As it turned out Dan Semenza allowed us to bring weights down from CSU to make more available at the Div I and II sites. The Rec center provided more at the Div III site. At Coors event center these loaners where the weights on the carts in the center whihc the judges rolled back and forth as teams needed them. They weren't the best, but at least they were all the same. Without them all the big weight Div II teams would have had to figure out how to load 35#'s with only team members and no adult assistant after 900#. That would have been spontaneous problem to work out as our second weight handler gets pretty tired after moving a 1/2 ton in a few minutes besides being 7" shorter than the primary weight loader! As for Iowa they are supposed to have 40 - 45# plates at each competition site, but they may be the taller rimmed variety if I remember what they had in 2003. Will be tough to break that 1535 mark if they are. Good luck to all next year from us in Colorado- building both teams and structures.
